Studie I
Karlheinz Stockhausen

The first electronic composition published with a score. Stockhausen built each sound from pure sine waves at mathematically precise frequency ratios, assembled on magnetic tape at WDR Cologne. No instruments, no recorded sounds, only mathematics made audible.

A starfield drifting outward through deep space. White squares emerge on strong beats, sparse between them. The view pulls back as the piece plays. Scroll to drift further. Each point of light traces one frequency in the field.
